Photographs & text by Marta Lopez.
And tomorrow, who?
This photographic project was born from curiosity and a desire to glimpse the heart of the primary sector. I used photography as an excuse to enter a largely inaccessible world, to ask questions, observe, and document the work of traditional trades that are increasingly unlikely to survive, as there is no next generation to take them on.
Through these images, I seek to preserve the memory of these practices, aware that, even if the trade itself disappears, the photographs will remain as living witnesses to a way of life in transformation.
This project is unfinished. But I cannot put into words how, when I look through the images, I feel a melody in my head and, at the same time, absolute silence. These are
solitary, hard, and very constant trades. I photograph for this reason: to endure, to tell stories, and to immortalize them.
A photographer is someone who has stories to tell, and today, I want to tell this one.
